Christian Corgier
The Revival of Ceiling Decoration
As recently as the 18th Century painted ceilings were very much a feature of interior decor, Christian Corgier continues to develop this tradition. A French artist who has lived in Britain for the past thirty five years working and sharing his craftsmanship in perspective and decorative painting. During this time he has developed one of the most specialised painting workshops in Europe, particularly in the art of ceiling decoration. The studio produces handpainted canvasses off-site whilst projects are in progress and installed with the minimum of fuss. The canvas is polyester resistant to damp and is washable. We hope this book will give you a taste of his work. You will see how he uses the law of perspective to create visual illusions, such as, feigning architecture in perspective on a flat ceiling in such a way that it seems to continue the existing architecture, or, the foreshortening of figures creating an illusion of perspective that is quite clearly impossible and see some of the neo-classical heavenly spheres and open skies creating limitless space. Alongside the more traditional classical work commissioned, Christian Corgier also produces some very modern pieces of artwork for a more contemporary backdrop. Using the same geometric tricks of perspective and illusion he uses bold and dynamic shapes to create more space, light and ambiguity to interiors. He believes that the development and power of the art of decorative ceiling painting has a firm and important place in the modern interior design landscape.
The studio also specialises in murals and trompe l’oeil. Working for many distinguished private and public clients over the years. These have included
The Ritz Hotel (London), The Berkeley Hotel, The Savoy Hotel, The Dorchester Hotel Spa, Peter Farlow Decoration, Adams and Palmer, Candy and Candy, Peregrine Bryant, Anna Owen Design, and many private clients.
